Srinivasan re-elected as BCCI chief

N Srinivasan has been re-elected as the president of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI). The Tamil Nadu businessman will be serving as the board chief for a third year after the members did not oppose to his request for an extension of term.

Srinivasan however, can resume his duties only after the Supreme Court clears him of the charges in the court chase filed by the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB).

Srinivasan's election was on expected lines despite the fact that he is facing intense criticism on the issue of propriety after his son-in-law and Chennai Team Principal Gurunath Meiyappan was charge-sheeted in the IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal. Srinivasan's company India Cements owns the CSK franchise.

Srinivasan was the lone presidential candidate nominated by the South Zone, from where he got the proposer and the seconder. Sudhir Dabir, vice President from the Central Zone and his West Zone colleague Niranjan Shah were removed from their positions even though both were eligible for extension. MCA president Ravi Savant replaced Shah from West Zone, while senior Congress leader and union minister Rajiv Shukla took Dabir's position from the Central Zone.

Another political heavyweight, Arun Jaitley, relinquished the vice-President's position due to his political commitments and was replaced by his Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) colleague Sneh Bansal.

Other top office-bearers were also elected unopposed at the BCCI's annual general meeting held in Chennai. Sanjay Patel was elected secretary while Haryana Cricket Association chief Anirudh Chaudhry was named treasurer, a post which become vacant after Savant was formally made vice-President.

Reports also indicated that Ranjib Biswal will succeed Rajiv Shukla as the IPL Chairman.
